Mylopotas Beach Ios 2026 — The Complete Local Guide

Mylopotas is the main beach of Ios, organized, expansive, and the only place on the island that truly covers every type of traveler. The beach is so big that everyone finds their own spot without stepping on anyone else.

The Three Zones

The beach naturally divides into three distinct areas, each with its own rhythm.

  • At the beginning, it’s crowded with friends, couples, and families. If you want company, this is where it where you should go.

  • In the middle, it gets quieter and feels more secluded. Fewer people. More peace. Same water, different vibe.

  • At the very end, that’s where the day club and the party energy operates. But here’s what matters: that energy has boundaries and an end time.

Mylopotas Changes Throughout the Day

Morning is genuinely quiet. A few families with kids. People having breakfast and coffee at the restaurants, others run across the coast. The beach wakes up slowly.

Midday explodes. This is peak beach life. Sun high, water full, energy everywhere. Families, couples, friends. Everyone is here.

After sunset, it shifts again. The light turns golden. Crowds thin. This is dinner time. Restaurants fill. The beach is calm but alive. People linger over drinks and food, watching the water.

Then at 10pm, the beach clubs close. And what most tourists don’t know: Mylopotas becomes completely peaceful and quiet. The nightlife of Ios happens in Chora, not here. The beach is yours for a calm, relaxing evening.

The Water

It’s always cold, really cold. But incredibly clean and energetic. The moment you enter, you feel it.

The depths change as you walk the length of the beach. At the start, normal depth. In the middle section, one step in and you’re already at your knees. At the far end, it stays really shallow.

The color is dark blue — deeper than you’d expect. And if you walk barefoot from one end to the other, you’ll notice the sand texture changes under your feet. It’s something I always tell visitors to do. Pay attention to it.
